Schmeichel: A Decent Start, But That’s All It Is
- Kasper Schmeichel says Leicester City must kick on from their fine opening to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign
- The Foxes head to St. Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton on Friday (8pm kick-off)

The Foxes have collected 17 points from nine Premier League games, and currently sit third in the table as they prepare for a clash with Ralph Hasenhüttl’s 17th-placed outfit on the south coast.
Schmeichel, 32, excelled for Denmark over the October international break, and has been an ever-present for City in the league this term, helping them win five games in England’s top flight.
Schmeichel said: “I think we’re reasonably happy, there are elements of disappointment with some results, particularly the [Manchester] United result away, and obviously, the Liverpool game at the end was disappointing.
“I think it’s a decent start, but that’s all it is at the moment, it’s a start. It’s not going to count for anything unless we keep kicking on.”
Riding the crest of a wave after only suffering losses to Liverpool and Manchester United away from home in 2019/20, City have been impressive under Northern Irishman Brendan Rodgers, who Schmeichel believes has evolved the Foxes’ playing style.
Schmeichel added: “I think when you’ve been at a club for so long, you go through different times. At the moment, it’s a good moment. The Club has appointed a manager that I think we are lucky to have.
The playing style you can see, it’s changing, it’s evolving, and I think we haven’t actually played brilliantly some of the times, but the good thing is we’ve been picking up points and it also shows there’s a lot more to come.

“[Khun] Top went out and got the best man he could have got. Brendan’s come in, revitalised the whole club, not just the players, but the staff and the stadium staff. Absolutely everyone has got a breath of fresh air.
